Albert Nichols, a seventh-generation Californian, has always been fascinated by scents and inspired by his childhood summers on his great-grandmother’s cattle ranch in the Sierra Nevada and winters on a family estate in Reno. He left architecture in 1995 to spent the next year traveling along the Silk Road, a chain of roads through Asia that once connected monks, traders and merchants with the Mediterranean Sea. He also lived for some time in Europe, studying the ways of perfumers in Italy, Greece and France. After returning to San Francisco from Europe, Nichols spent one year testing fragrance formulas, settling on 10 signature perfumes and founding Elizabeth W in San Francisco. Along with his business partner Michael Lindsay, they have two lovely boutiques in San Francisco and offer their products at some of the finest stores around the world.
